♊Rangers are still confident of Connor Goldson signing a new deal according to managing director Stewart Robertson.

Goldson’s contract expires in the summer, and he has shown a reluctance ꧃to sign a new deal. Despite, the only reported coming from Championship clubs in England.

🍬At the age of 29, Goldson may see this as his last chance at becoming a regular in the English Premier League. However, it remains to be seen if any Premier League interest materialises.

Rangers have not given up on Goldson

ඣSpeaking to Sky Sports, Robertson was asked are you resigned to losing Connor Goldson? He

⛎“The focus has all been on the last dozen football games, European games, and Scottish Cup. We’re not resigned to losing him. I know Ross (Wilson) is having regular conversations with all the players whose contracts are expiring in the summer and that’s something that will be addressed in the coming months.”

ℱGoldson has been a stalwart for Rangers since from Brighton in 2018. He has missed a game in his four years at the club and is a consistent performer.

💃Goldson is one of the leaders of the dressing room, the vice-captain of the club, and was an integral part of the team that won the coveted for Rangers, playing every minute of the campaign, conceding a mere 13 goals in 38 games.

Mainstay of the Rangers spine

♊Rangers have had many variations at centre back, with Nico Katic, Filip Helander, Leon Balogun, Joe Worrall, Jack Simpson, and George Edmundson all featuring over the years, none have dislodged Goldson, they have all vied to be his partner at the back. Goldson is a mainstay in the spine of the Rangers team.

🦹The fact the questions around Goldson’s contract have been ongoing since the start of the season suggests he doesn’t want to remain at the club. He has served the club well and no fan can begrudge him a move back down South with his family and aspirations.

Stewart Robertson reiterated this saying

𓂃“I’m quite philosophical about how these things work. Players come in and sign a contract and they’ve committed for that time. If they serve their time and that’s what the club has signed up to as well then that’s fine”

TBR View: Goldson waiting to see if Rangers get Champions League football

ღGoldson is likely waiting to see if Rangers qualify for the Champions League before he makes his decision. However, his mind may already be made up and has not been made public to avoid hysteria. He may want to move South for personal reasons as opposed to footballing reasons, with his recent celebration at Ross County, similar to a celebration at Brighton in the past suggesting his partner is expecting – only Connor can answer his intentions and reasoning.

ಌNonetheless, Goldson will never play for a bigger club than Rangers. He can win more league titles and accolades at Rangers than he will anywhere else. He is not going to get a move to a big club down South that is competing for the title. and also has the chance of playing in the Champions League at Rangers, something he has never experienced before.

In terms of his aspirations to play down South — at best, former manager Steven Gerrard could come calling and look to offer a player he once described as a “warrior🔜” the chance to achieve his dream of playing in the Premier League. However, it is unlikely he would even be a starter for Aston Villa.

🍷Stewart Robertson suggesting the club has not given up hope of Connor signing will be welcome news to Rangers fans. It would be a huge boost going forward if he committed further to the club. Although, if Connor does decide to move on, he will be thanked kindly for his immense contribution, he will be fondly remembered, and all parties move on.
