Commentator stunned by £50,000-a-week Tottenham star’s speed after watching him live
Andy Townsend was blown away by Tottenham Hotspur star Micky van de Ven’s speed in the game against Fulham last night.
The Dutchman is proving to be a fantastic signing for Spurs. He has barely put a foot wrong in his Tottenham career so far, and his pace seems to be the trait that surprises almost everyone, especially when you watch him cover the ground live. Here’s what Andy Townsend said about him on commentary on last night.

Andy Townsend praises Tottenham star Micky van de Ven’s speed
Tottenham signed Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg in a £43 million deal in the summer ().
The Dutchman was one of the most impressive central defenders in the Bundesliga last season, and it was always only a matter of time before he left Die Wölfe for a bigger club.
Spurs came calling in the summer and after weeks of negotiations, the two clubs agreed a deal for the transfer of the 22-year-old Netherlands international.
Van de Ven has played 10 times in all competitions for Tottenham so far, and he is proving to be a ‘pretty incredible signing‘ by Ange Postecoglou.
He is a big guy, but to everyone’s surprise, he is absolutely rapid. He put his pace on display against Fulham in the Premier League yesterday, and Townsend was beyond impressed.
The commentator in the 19th minute after Van de Ven outpaced Carlos Vinicius: “He’s so quick, he is so rapid Micky van de Ven. You don’t want to be in a foot race with him, you really don’t.
“You can see he travels across the ground so easily and so effectively. It allows Romero to go tight, be aggressive and try and pinch balls in front of forwards.
“He knows he can do that with someone alongside him who is really rapid.”

Spurs pulled off a transfer masterstroke with Van de Ven
Everyone’s focus with respect to Tottenham in the summer was on James Maddison, and we can’t blame them. The Englishman was their big-name signing.
Maddison has been absolutely outstanding for Spurs so far this season, but do you know who else has been simply incredible? Micky van de Ven.
The £50,000 -a-week () Dutchman is still only 22 and has hit the ground running in the Premier League despite never playing in the country before. He is a serious talent, and we really think Spurs have hit the jackpot here.
Van de Ven will only get better in the coming years, and we won’t be surprised at all if he ends up being an even better player than Cristian Romero by the time he reaches his prime.
