Colombia’s national media deliver brutal verdict on Liverpool star Luis Diaz’s display vs Argentina
Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz endured a tough night for Colombia as he failed to make an impression against Argentina.
While his side may have won the game 2-1, the 27-year-old couldn’t build on his strong start to the season for club and country.
Yerson Mosquera broke the deadlock for the home side, but Argentina restored parity through Nico Gonzalez.
However, midway through the second half, James Rodriguez scored the decisive goal of the game from the penalty spot to give his side all three points.
Diaz endured a night to forget and the Colombian media pulled no punches with their assessment of his performance.
Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz fails to produce the goods against Argentina

Argentine media said after the game that Diaz was largely kept at bay by Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero.
The local Colombia media, however, took it up a notch as they delivered a grim verdict of his outing.
In what was a short but scathing assessment of Diaz, rated him five out of ten, saying: “He didn’t shine, he looked defeated, he couldn’t do even one individual [contribution]. Five points.”
The 27-year-old, however, wasn’t the worst-rated player in the starting XI for Colombia.
Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran earned himself a rating of four out of ten by El Tiempo, which is an indication that Colombia certainly weren’t at their best up front despite the result.
Diaz’s stats vs Argentina
In terms of ratings, Diaz’s 6.3 represents the worst return for any player who featured for Colombia against Argentina.
The Liverpool attacker won just three of the 11 ground duels he contested and lost possession 11 times to cap off a rather wasteful display for his country.
Diaz failed to register a shot on target despite playing the entirety of the game, which is another indication that it simply wasn’t his night.
His latest display aside, the 27-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the season and has already scored four times for club and country.
Diaz is in line to get a new contract at Liverpool and should brush off his performance against Argentina as a one-off rather than the norm.
