Cody Gakpo shares what Virgil van Dijk has done behind the scenes at Liverpool that could make big difference in title race
Liverpool are now 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League table after getting the better of Manchester City on Sunday.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in the 14th minute before Dominik Szoboszlai ended the game as a contest in the 37th minute.
Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City, combined with Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to West Ham, has seen the Reds establish a gigantic gap at the summit.
Now, Cody Gakpo has revealed what happened in the Liverpool dressing room after the game, including what Virgil van Dijk did that was so important.

Cody Gakpo says Virgil van Dijk eager to keep Liverpool players focused and calm
Gakpo said Liverpool’s players were obviously happy after returning to the dressing room after beating the reigning champions, but they didn’t get ahead of themselves.
The Dutchman said Arne Slot spoke “all the time” before adding that Van Dijk also spoke to his teammates in order to keep them “calm” and “focused”.
“I think when you come in straight after you are happy,” Gakpo told the Liverpool .
“After the game obviously the manager speaks all the time, but the captain did as well to just keep us calm and keep us focused at the games ahead because the season is not finished with this win.
“We still have 11 more games to go. We have to do the same things again and again and again and then we see where we will end.”
The earliest that Liverpool could win the title
On paper, the earliest that Liverpool could wrap up the title would be on 12 April, when they face West Ham.
However, this would depend on Arsenal losing all five of their games up to then, along with Liverpool winning all of theirs.
As things stand, Liverpool are averaging 2.37 points per game this season and Arsenal averaging 2.03 points per game.
If both teams maintained those points-per-game statistics, Liverpool could potentially win the title if they beat Chelsea on the weekend of 3 May.
Liverpool are next in Premier League action on Wednesday night when they host Newcastle United in a 8:15pm kick-off at Anfield.
