Cody Drameh compares blossoming Leeds partnership to famous Manchester United duo
Cody Drameh has compared Leeds duo Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood to famous Manchester United partnership Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole.
Drameh, 19, has been excellent since joining Leeds – so much so that he has been given a chance at senior level. He has played twice in the last week.
But it was his Under-23 teammates that sparkled on Tuesday night – though failing to prevent being knocked out of the EFL Trophy at Salford.
A 5-3 defeat saw Leeds failed to defend, but looked excellent going forward. Greenwood and Gelhardt were pivotal to that, linking up superbly.
They have done, since both joined the club in the summer of 2020. Gelhardt from Wigan, and Greenwood from Arsenal – for a combined £2.5million.
Both were crucial to promotion to PL2’s top tier last season, and have since played at senior level. , after Tuesday.
Leeds duo Greenwood and Gelhardt – the new Cole and Yorke?
Gelhardt did not score against Salford, but he laid on two assists – the second of which was perfect for Greenwood to score.
The ex-Arsenal man is dropping deeper into central midfield. But turning his man, Gelhardt set up Greenwood with a neat little pass, 12 yards out.
It is another example of numerous combinations between the two that has provided the attacking heartbeat in Mark Jackson’s Under-23 side.
Of course, Manchester United’s legendary partnership of Cole and Yorke is miles away. But Drameh compared them on Greenwood’s post.
