Club’s director says £20m player wants to leave Liverpool and join his team

Liverpool’s summer transfer window has been really underwhelming so far.

When Arne Slot was announced as the heir to Jurgen Klopp’s throne, almost every fan expected the Dutchman💦 to be active on the marꦚket.

However, we’re just two weeks away from the start of the new Premier League season and Liverpool haven’t 🦩made a𒆙 single signing yet.

The Reds haven’t sold anyone either – Thiago Aওlcantara, Joel Matip and Adrian all left the club on free transfers at the end of their𒊎 contracts.

Now, 🧸a foreign club’s sporting director has expressed his desire to sign one Liverpool player.

Sepp van den Berg wants to leave Liverpool and join Mainz

Liverpool signed Sepp van den Berg from FC Zwolle in the summer of 2019 for an initial fee of £1.3 mill🤪ion ().

The defender was just 17 at the time, and m🌳any in the game believed he had a bright future ahead of him at Liverpool.

However, Van den Berg has made just four senior competitive appearances for Liverpool over the years. He has๊ been sent out on loan thrice – first to Preston North End, th꧂en to Schalke and most recently to Mainz in the Bundesliga.

The 22-year-old was a regular for Mainz in the 2023/24 season. He played🏅 really well, so much so that the German side are desperate to re-sign him.

T🍸he club’s director of football, Christian Heidel, has even claimed that Van den B📖erg wants to return to the MEWA Arena arena in the coming weeks.

However, Liverpool are demanding £20 million for Van den Berg, which is just way too expensive for Mainz at the moment. T⛎hey can, however, afford another loan deal.

Heidel told Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg: “We would like him to stay and Sepp would also really like to do it. But we also respect that Liverpool have not decided about it yet🐎.

“We will not buy a player for over £20m,𝔍 which is what Liverpool want. Our club cannot do that.”

Van den Berg has surprised people at Liverpool

Nobody really expected Van den Berg to do anything but l𒐪eave this summer, but he may have given himself a great chance o🌱f staying at Liverpool.

The Dutchman returned for pre-season, and reports have revealed that Van den Berg🌱 has shocked S💮lot and his coaching staff with his maturity and technical ability.

Even Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Van den Berg has been really impressive in Liverpool’s 💮training sessions under Slot.

With the Re♏ds struggling to find a replacement for Matip at the back, Van den Berg could potentially get the nod for a role in the squad for the upcoming campaign.

However, whether th📖e Dutchman would be pr𝄹epared to accept a backup position remains to be seen.
