Club would now rather lose ‘unbelievable’ £13m player for free than sell him to Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur might want a new defender in the January window but they could face trouble when it comes to signing Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly.

Kelly is believed to be one of the players on Tottenham’s radar. Reports have suggested Spurs really like Kelly and with his contract winding down, the Londoners feel there’s a chance for them to snap him up.

Arsenal are also thought to be in the mix to sign Kelly, who has impressed with the Cherries.

However, according a report from – who cite AC Milan’s interest – Bournemouth are in absolutely no rush to sell Kelly in January.

Indeed, it’s claimed that the Cherries would even rather lose Kelly for nothing in the summer than sell him for a fee in the window.

Tottenham could struggle to sign Lloyd Kelly

It’s pretty obvious as to why Tottenham fancy getting Kelly into their squad. They need a new defender anyway but Kelly has so many attributes that Ange Postecoglou will like.

At just 25, Kelly has the prime of his career still to come and Postecoglou will like the fact he has excellent pace about him as well.

Bournemouth paid just to sign him in 2020 and it’s hard to see the Cherries being able to get much more than that back if they were to sell this winter.

Of course, keeping hold of Kelly might be harder in reality. If Tottenham do come knocking, the player himself might well push for the move and then things become really hard for the Cherries.

Lauded as an ‘‘ defender, Kelly very much has a bit of everything in the locker when it comes to being a Premier League defender.

With all that in mind, it’s hard to see Kelly saying no to Spurs if they can get all parties to the table.
