Club president suggests £55m player is not close to joining Liverpool
A club president has publicly stated that one of his star players is not in talks to join Liverpool despite rumours that broke over the weekend.
The Reds are one of two Premier League clubs who are yet to spend a single penny on new signings this summer, with Liverpool currently in the United States for pre-season as Arne Slot looks to get his team back into shape ahead of the new campaign.
With links to the likes of Jorrel Hato and Xavi Simons, though, it is clear that Liverpool are in the market for new signings, though time is starting to slowly run out for the Reds in their pursuit to bring in new additions.
And a club president has now shot down rumours that Liverpool want to sign one of his key players.

Real Sociedad official denies Liverpool talks with Takefusa Kubo
Speaking to , Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay confirmed that no talks were currently ongoing between Liverpool and Japanese winger Takefusa Kubo, who has been linked with a move to Anfield in recent days.
Valued at £55m, Kubo is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in La Liga having played a key role for Sociedad in the last two seasons, with the Basque giants since returning to the UEFA Champions League and making it to the knockout stage.
With Liverpool in the market for an attacker, Kubo would have been an ideal signing for the Reds, yet it appears that this transfer is nowhere near close to actually happening based from Sociedad’s point of view.
Aperribay said on Liverpool’s rumoured interest in Kubo: “There is no issue. There are no negotiations with any club. We’re in the market, anything can happen, but Take is very happy here and he’s going to continue. We love him very much, let’s hope he stays at La Real forever.”

Liverpool should make a move for Kubo this summer
A long-term replacement fro Mohamed Salah is something Liverpool need to consider this summer, and Kubo could be an interesting choice given his qualities and his strengths in playing out on the right.
As mentioned, Kubo is one of the most exciting forwards currently plying their trade in La Liga, with the Japanese international a good mix between a good finisher and a productive playmaker out on the wing.
And for Liverpool, Kubo could be a good successor to Salah at Anfield, with the Egyptian forward heading into what could be his final year with the Reds.
