Club president flying to London to close sale of ‘world-class’ star to Arsenal
Arsenal have made one signing so far this summer, but it shouldn’t be long until they have a second senior new recruit at the Emirates Stadium.
Earlier this summer, the Gunners bolstered their defensive ranks by .
With 10 days left until the summer transfer window shuts, Arsenal don’t have that much time to get new signings over the line.
And with the Gunners eager to finally win the Premier League title for the first time since 2004, Edu and Mikel Arteta will surely be keen on adding the finishing touches to their squad.
Now, according to a report from Spain, the director of a La Liga club is now travelling to London to close to sale of his “world-class” player to Arsenal.

Real Sociedad chief en route to Arsenal for Mikel Merino talks
The player in question is Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino, who has been heavily linked with the Gunners over the past few weeks.
According to , Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay is currently on his way to London.
He has apparently taken a flight from the Basque Country to the English capital after arranging a meeting with Arsenal’s hierarchy in order to reach a definitive agreement for the player’s sale.
MD quoted Aperribay as saying “we have not called Arsenal to sell Merino” at a press conference, but then claimed he is ‘going to the (British) islands to put an end to a painful sale’.
The report then claims the Sociedad chief intends to reach an agreement with the Gunners for a deal worth €40million (£34million).
This is after the Liga club apparently rejected Arsenal’s offer of €30million (£25.6million) plus add-ons.

Merino ‘the type of midfielder Arteta could create in a lab’
Merino’s contract expires next summer, which means Sociedad need to sell this summer if they are to receive adequate compensation for his services.
Although the Basque club is said to have rejected Arsenal’s latest offer for Merino, it looks as though they are eager to push a deal over the line.
Hopefully Arsenal will manage to get their hands on the 28-year-old, as he is a “world-class” player.
Merino, who has helped both Sociedad and Spain to glory in recent years, would be a superb acquisition for Arsenal.
He has excelled with Spain throughout his career, winning Euro 2024, the Nations Cup and two Euros at age level.
Merino has also won a Spanish Cup with Sociedad and a German Cup with Borussia Dortmund, so he certainly knows what it takes to win silverware.
In terms of his style of play, recently published an article describing Merino as the ‘type of midfielder Arteta would create in a lab if given the chance.’
All in all, Merino looks like a great fit for Arsenal, so a breakthrough will hopefully take place in the coming days.
