Club expecting last-minute bids for their ‘terrific’ player after he’s linked with Everton move

Ajax are reportedly expecting last-minute bids for Chuba Akpom, with Everton one of the clubs rumoured to be interested in the striker.

The 28-year-old attacker joined the Dutch giants last summer after a sensational year in the Championship, with Akpom scoring 29 goals for Middlesbrough in the second-tier.

, Akpom’s record-breaking exploits saw the forward win a move to Ajax, though things haven’t gone too well for the striker.

According to the Telegraph, the Eredivisie side are expecting late offers from English sides to bring Akpom back, with Everton recently linked with a move for the former Arsenal academy star.

With Everton in the market for a striker, Akpom could be an ideal short-term solution for Sean Dyche’s side if the Toffees can reach an agreement with Ajax for the 28-year-old.

However, with so little time remaining in the window, Everton might have left it too late to conduct a deal for Akpom, who might also be eager to remain in Amsterdam with Ajax.

Premier League clubs have been quiet this January, with a grand total of 11 permanent transfers being made across all 20 teams in the division.

Yet in a tradition as old as time, clubs will be panic buying tomorrow on deadline day, and Everton could well end up taking part in the form of moving for Ajax’s Akpom.

The attacker would be a great addition to Dyche’s ranks a forward who could grasp Premier League football with both hands if given the chance.

However, Everton might have entered the transfer race far too late for a deal to actually happen, with Ajax seemingly looking for a specific deal if they’re to offload Akpom in the next 36 hours.
