Club could now be willing to sell £50m playmaker on Aston Villa radar
Aston Villa have been linked with Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe in the past.
Now, journalist Dean Jones reckons that the Villans should consider another approach as the Gunners may just be willing to cash in on the 23-year-old.
Back in 2021, Villa tried their luck with a £25million bid for Smith Rowe, but Arsenal rejected the Villans’ approach.
Since then, things have changed considerably for both Villa and Smith Rowe, which suggests a breakthrough may be more likely if the Villans tried their luck again.
The Arsenal man has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, finding himself behind the likes of Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard.
‘It’d be a very good signing for Aston Villa’
In 2021, Villa finished in mid-table, but now, with Unai Emery at the helm, they are second in the table, just three points off the summit.
With that in mind, Arsenal may be more inclined to sell Smith Rowe, and the player himself may be more tempted to make the move now Villa are where they are.
Jones told : “Villa made a couple of bids for Smith Rowe last year and if that interest is still bubbling away, then this would be an ideal moment to go and have another go.

“I feel like Arsenal will be tempted to cash in on someone who isn’t an essential first-team player.
“Smith Rowe is a very good player with a really good attitude and good application. I think it’d be a very good signing for Aston Villa.
“Part of me does wonder if they’ve been keeping an eye on the fact he’s only started one Premier League game this season.”
Aston Villa will fancy their chances of signing Emile Smith Rowe in 2024 – TBR View
Admittedly, Smith Rowe has had injury problems at Arsenal in recent times. But even when he has been fit and available, he has not started matches.
Mikel Arteta recently claimed that he still has the Hale End graduate in his plans, but it’s hard to see how he can get back into the starting XI any time soon.
With that in mind, Villa should certainly try again for the talent. If not in January, then surely they’ll fancy their chances of getting a deal over the line in January.
