Club are confident they are going to beat Arsenal to sign ‘incredible’ player
Arsenal haven’t had the best of luck in the summer transfer window so far when it comes to securing their top targets.
Benjamin Sesko decided to stay at RB Leipzig this summer, Joao Neves looks set to join PSG instead of Arsenal, and now, another of Arsenal’s targets appears to be headed elsewhere.
Indeed, Arsenal have been linked with a move for Dani Olmo this summer, but according to Fabrizio Romano, , Barcelona now believe they’re in pole position to get a deal done for the midfielder.
Barcelona confident of signing Dani Olmo
Romano shared what he knows about the ‘’ Arsenal target.
“This could also be very important to understand the case of Dani Olmo. This is the case for Bayern. Bayern are still interested, still in contact for Dani Olmo, but no official bid to Leipzig., Then there is Barcelona. Nothing will be decided with Barcelona for Dani Olmo this week.
“Barcelona’s obsession, dream target, their number one, two and three is Nico Williams. That is the position of the club. Nico is their obsession. As soon as they know what’s happening with Nico Williams, they will start thinking of other topics.
“They are having regular contacts with the agents of Dani Olmo. The feeling at Barca is that Dani Olmo is giving priority to them, so Barcelona are quite confident of that.
“But I’m not saying that Dani Olmo is only going to Barcelona, because there is still a possibility for Bayern and there’s still a possibility in the Premier League in case a big club in England can complete some outgoings.”
Dani Olmo wouldn’t suit Barcelona
Barcelona look set to sign Dani Olmo this summer, but this feels like a poor move for the Spaniard.
Yes, Barcelona are one of the biggest clubs in the world, but their system really doesn’t suit Olmo.
As we saw at Euro 2024, Olmo is at his best when he plays in a more advanced midfield role, but Barcelona very much use three deeper midfielders with the likes of Gavi, Pedri, Frenkie De Jong, Ilkay Gundogan and Fermin Lopez all rotating in tandem.
Olmo has the talent to play for a top club, but he needs to join a team where his talents will be utilised properly.
