Club are actually expecting Tottenham to take £165,000-a-week player from them this summer

RB Leipzig actually expect Tottenham to take Timo Werner from them on a permanent basis this summer.

That is according to BILD.

So, what is the latest on Timo Werner at Tottenham? Let’s take a look…

RB Leipzig expect Tottenham to sign Timo Werner

Well – according to – Spurs hold a €20m (£17m) option to buy the Germany international permanently at the end of the season.

Werner joined Tottenham on a six-month loan deal during the January transfer window.

It is said that RB Leipzig expect Tottenham to trigger the purchase option after the German made a solid start to life in north London.

Werner has made Premier League appearances under Ange Postecoglou since returning to English football – where he spent time with Chelsea – failing to score but providing two assists as he adapts well to the Australian’s attacking style of play.

Johan Lange – Director of Football at Tottenham – has already backed the man from Stuttgart to shine in N17.

Postecoglou also called Werner a “quality player” following his performance in the recent 3-2 win over Brentford.

Tottenham must sign Timo Werner

Even if Werner fails to score many goals between now and the end of the season, Spurs would be foolish not to sign him for just £17m.

For a club of Tottenham’s size, that is pocket change nowadays, especially for a player who boasts a vast amount of experience, and also has plenty of time remaining at the highest level at the age of 27.

Football is a squad game, and while Werner may not be a regular starter next season, he seems to fit Postecoglou’s style of play, and would offer quality depth with Spurs expected to be back playing European football next term.

To put it simply, Tottenham would do very, very well to find another 27-year-old forward with goals in 57 international games, and Premier League appearances, for just £17m.

Unless Werner does something foolish to burn his bridges with Spurs, Tottenham’s first task of the summer should be to trigger the man’s purchase clause.
