Club appear to give up on £30m Arsenal player as talks begin to sign alternative

Edu Gaspar is currently trying to oversee some sales as he attempts to trim the squad at Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta seems content to allow some of his fringe players to depart ahead of the transfer deadline on Friday 30th August – with Nottingham Forest in talks to sign Eddie Nketiah while Leicester are considering a late move for Reiss Nelson.

Now – however – there has been an apparent setback in attempts to sell another fringe player at Arsenal after one interested party started to look elsewhere…

Ajax seemingly move on from Aaron Ramsdale

A story from David Ornstein of recently revealed that Ajax had made a bid to sign Aaron Ramsdale on loan.

The Gunners are looking to offload the England international after Arteta decided to make David Raya his No.1 at the Emirates Stadium.

TBR Football understand that Ramsdale himself is also keen to leave – with Arsenal hoping to receive around £30m from his sale.

Now – however – Ajax no longer appear to be an option for the man from Chesterton.

A story from states that Ajax have just opened talks with Nantes over a deal to sign French goalkeeper Alban Lafont, who is free to leave the Ligue 1 side having already entered the final 24 months of his contract.

Given the fact this deal looks likely to materialise, it would be a major shock if the Dutch giants returned to the negotiating table for Ramsdale, so it would seem their interest in the 26-year-old is over.

Where the Arsenal No.1 could end up

As things stand, the Sheffield United academy graduate seems likely to join Wolves.

Interestingly, Wolves are said to be willing to include Daniel Bentley in a deal to sign Ramsdale, a player who Arsenal bid to sign as a replacement for the England international earlier this summer.

Furthermore, Bournemouth are also keen to sign Ramsdale and bring him back to the Vitality Stadium – where he made 37 appearances between 2017 and 2020.

However – in our view at least – Wolves are the most likely destination, seeing as they can provide an immediate replacement in Bentley.
