Clive Allen blown away by one Tottenham player despite the defeat to West Ham last night

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 2-1 defeat to West Ham United last night, but Clive Allen was really impressed by Cristian Romero.

Spurs have hit a real slump, haven’t they? They’ve picked up just one point out of a possible 15 in their last five Premier League games, and things are not looking great. However, Romero’s return last night is a big positive.

Clive Allen impressed by Tottenham’s Cristian Romero vs West Ham

Tottenham welcomed Cristian Romero back last night after his three-game suspension, and he marked his return with a goal.

The Argentine is Spurs’ best defender. He makes them so much better at the back, and Spurs really have missed him in recent weeks.

Romero opened the scoring for Tottenham with a lovely header in the first half last night. He was very good at the back as well for most parts and was unlucky to see his side concede twice and lose the game.

Tottenham, unsurprisingly, are very disappointed with the result, but Romero’s return has to be viewed as a huge positive. Clive Allen certainly thinks so.

He said on : “I think what he did, he loves defending. First and foremost, he defended, he made important interceptions, and he set us on our way a number of times.

“That was a real positive from him coming back into the back four.”

Romero’s return is a huge boost for Tottenham

Tottenham are missing a number of their key players at the moment.

James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Rodrigo Bentancur are all ruled out until the new year, and that has been a real blow for them in recent weeks.

Romero too was suspended for the three games before last night, and Ange Postecoglou was forced to deploy two full-backs in the heart of the defence then.

Now, Romero is back, and despite the defeat last night, his return is a huge boost for Tottenham for their upcoming games.
