Clint Dempsey makes shock move to Spurs

Amidst a hectic transfer deadline day, it was announced today that Clint Dempsey will continue to play his football in London, but for Andre Villas-BoasSpurs instead. It was a move left late by Tottenham, with only an hour left before the transfer window closed.

The deal is 3 years and worth a reported £6 million. Dempsey has been Fulham’s most consistent performer for several years, and I think the relatively cheap price tag will please Spurs. Scoring 35 goals in his last 2 seasons with the Cottagers emphasises the amount of talent that he has. With the loss of Dempsey and Dembele, Fulham will have a little bid of rebuilding to do after their great start to the season.

Dempsey will bring a lot to Tottenham. He scores goals, creates goals and isn’t shy to put in a good shift defensively. His versatility is a big asset to his game, and with the departure of both Luka Modric and Rafael Van der Vaat, Andre Villas-Boas will look to utilise this part of his game.

As well as adding the experienced American to their squad, Spurs have acquired the services of Hugo Lloris, Moussa Dembele and Gylfi Sigurdsson to name a few. Villas-Boas has struggled out of the blocks this season, but has this transfer window turned Spurs into genuine title contenders?
