Ciro Immobile says Tottenham target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is on the same level as Kevin De Bruyne

Tottenham Hotspur have long been linked with a move to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and the Serbian has now been compared to Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne.

Back in August, when Tottenham still seemed very active in the transfer window, reported that Antonio Conte was ‘crazy’ about the Serbian and was plotting a £50.8 million move to sign him.

That’s not the first time Milinkovic-Savic has been linked with a move to Spurs. He has reportedly been a target for years, and Tottenham now have more reason than ever to try and sign him.

Ciro Immobile says Tottenham target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is on the same level as Kevin De Bruyne

Tottenham have had a good start to the new season. They have only lost once in the Premier League all campaign, but their performances have not really been great, have they?

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur are Conte’s preferred midfield duo at the moment, but neither player is really renowned for their attacking prowess.

A player like Milinkovic-Savic would be perfect for Conte’s system and the Premier League, and Euro 2020 winner Immobile has just gone and compared him to arguably the best midfielder in the world – De Bruyne.

The Lazio skipper said, as quoted by : “Trust me, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is magic. He’s on the same level of Kevin De Bruyne”

Romano then wrote: “Milinkovic-Savic has 4 goals and 7 assists in 12 games this season. Lazio always wanted at least €75 million (£66m) to sell him.”

Milinkovic-Savic is arguably the best midfielder in the Serie A. He has been incredible over the last few years, but he has just been one of those players who hasn’t been able to get that big move away from Lazio.

Earlier this month, the 27-year-old joined De Bruyne to become the only two midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues to have at least 20 goals and 20 assists to their name over the last three seasons. ()

That really is a sensational record, and if Tottenham really are serious about taking their midfield to a whole new level, they should go all out for Milinkovic-Savic in one of the next two transfer windows.

It will be interesting to see what will happen to the Serbian in 2023, especially as he enters the final 18 months of his contract a couple of weeks after the end of the World Cup.
