Report: Leicester battling Ligue 1 duo for Euro 2020 ace; Nice had an £8m bid rejected in January

Leicester City are in a battle with Nice over a transfer for Celtic star Ryan Christie, according to .

In quite bizarre circumstances, the midfielder’s current contract expires next January.

The Ligue 1 outfit are renewing their bid to sign the star after having an £8m offer rejected in January. However, the face competition from back home for the player with AS Monaco also interested in the 26-year-old.

Brendan Rodgers has previously worked with Christie during his spell with the Bhoys. The Northern Irishman was in charge of the Glasgow giants from between 2016 and 2019.

The club are already on their way to completing a deal for one midfielder with Boubakary Soumare booked in for a medical over the next 10 days.

TBR View: Christie transfer could add depth and quality to Leicester

A transfer for Christie would add depth and quality to the Leicester side.

The club once again qualified for the Europa League after last season’s end of season’s drop off in form.

There is a need to improve the squad which lacks quality depth.

In the final game of last season, the club lost to Tottenham as they missed out on a place in the Champions League.

However, a raft of injury issues was at the centre of the club’s failures. Key players, Jonny Evans and Harvey Barnes missed the end of the campaign with fitness problems.

Meanwhile, a much-changed side failed to see off Slavia Prague as the side faltered in Europa League last year.

Christie has shown off his quality during his time with Celtic and Scotland in recent years.

The player’s drive in the final third could add a different dimension to the Foxes’ attack.

And he can also provide the golden touch in front of goal, having provided for the Scottish side in 142 games.

Depth and the Euro 2020’s quality would make the 26-year-old a great signing for the Midlanders as they look to move on from last season’s heartache.
