Chris Sutton thinks Steven Gerrard would swap Rangers for Aston Villa, if offered
that Steven Gerrard would swap Rangers for Aston Villa, if he was offered the chance to replace Dean Smith.
Smith is coming under enormous pressure after watching his Villa side lose 4-1 at home to West Ham. Of course, Smith has done a brilliant job at Villa.
He guided them to promotion in 2018-19, after three years in the second tier. Safety, just, in his first season was propelled to a comfortable 11th.
But this season, despite spending the best part of Jack Grealish’s £100million fee – Villa sit in 15th, losing six of their 10 league games.
Smith is coming under increasing pressure and Sutton, a former Villa striker, was asked about a possible replacement for the current Villa man.
He suggested Rangers boss Gerrard – and stated the Liverpool legend would take the Villa job if he was offered the chance to replace Smith at Villa Park.
“Steven Gerrard would take the Villa job, if he was offered the job. Yeah, I think so,” , in response to a fan suggesting Gerrard as an option.

While Smith has done a good job at Villa, you can tell the pressure is getting to him. He is proving spiky in press conferences, not his normal self.
Smith is a top manager and deserves huge praise for his job at Villa. But the Midands club seem at a bit of a stand still, and Villa need to look forward.
Six defeats in 10 is bad. 15th is a lot better than the actual situation; Villa are level on points with 16th and 17th. A relegation scrap is on the cards.
Would Gerrard be a good appointment? Well, it would be a good job for Gerrard to take – to prove to Liverpool his Premier League credentials.
For Villa, it would be an exciting move – one that could help them grow. But would Gerrard leave Rangers, especially in the middle of a season?
