Chris Sutton shocked after hearing stat about Tottenham and Arsenal this season

Tottenham and Arsenal have had wildly different seasons this term.

Indeed, Arsenal sit second in the Premier League on the verge of making it through to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are sitting firmly in the bottom-half of the Premier League, and Ange Postecoglou could get the sack before too long.

However, speaking on BBC 606, Chris Sutton has relayed a stunning stat about the two clubs this season.

Indeed, Sutton was shocked to find out that Spurs have actually scored more goals than Arsenal this season, despite being so far below the Gunners in the league.

Chris Sutton stunned by Arsenal and Tottenham stats

Sutton was speaking to Robbie Savage about some of Arsenal and Tottenham’s struggles this season.

The pundit was actually criticising Arsenal, saying that a lack of a centre-forward has cost the Gunners this season, noting that, remarkably, Spurs are outscoring the Gunners.

“Rob, that lack of a centre forward for Arsenal has cost them. Tottenham have scored more goals than Arsenal this season, Premier League. Let that sink in,” Sutton said.

“Where are the Spurs in the league?” Savage said.

“Yeah, well, I know. We are stat-based at times. I’m just telling you that Tottenham have scored more goals than Arsenal in the Premier League.”

Arsenal and Tottenham attacking stats compared

Tottenham have managed to outscore Arsenal this season, and that is somewhat embarrassing for the Gunners.

Indeed, this has been Spurs’ worst season for a generation, and somehow, they’re still managing to find the net more often than Arsenal.

However, the underlying stats suggest that Spurs aren’t actually better than Arsenal in an attacking sense.

In terms of expected goals, Arsenal are ahead of Tottenham, and while the two teams have taken a similar number of shots, Arsenal’s have been of a higher quality.

Ultimately, once again, Arsenal’s problem is finishing, and that’s why Arsenal will sign a striker this summer.

Alexander Isak has been strongly linked to Arsenal, and that is exactly the type of signing Arsenal need to right the wrongs of this season.
