Chris Sutton says Spurs have a talent in their ranks who can ‘make a difference’

Tottenham Hotspur playmaker James Maddison has been backed by Chris Sutton to “make a difference” against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Sutton, writing on , also feels that the Spurs attack will be “dangerous” if things click together in the front line.

Maddison was absent when an injury-hit Tottenham side lost 2-1 to Villa in November’s reverse fixture in north London.

Spurs’ personnel situation is not so bad now, with just four players – Richarlison, Manor Solomon, Ryan Sessegnon and Fraser Forster – set to definitely miss the game.

Sutton reckons Maddison’s expected availability for Tottenham could have a big say in who gets the points come 3pm on Sunday.

However, he also reckons Ollie Watkins will be one to watch, backing him to have a lively afternoon in the Spurs final third.

“Maddison will make a difference this time, and if the Spurs attack clicks then they will be dangerous,” he said.

“But you could say the same about Villa, and in-form Ollie Watkins, too and I don’t think he will have a quiet afternoon.”

Tottenham will hope to get closer to Aston Villa in Premier League table

Maddison has been a revelation for Tottenham, though it’s not that surprising as he delivered in the top flight for Leicester.

The ace is the first player to truly fill the gap Christian Eriksen vacated when he left Spurs.

Tottenham should be a different proposition against Villa now they’ve got most of their first-team players available.

Spurs are currently fifth in the Premier League table, five points and one place below Villa. Victory for the north Londoners in B6 would narrow the gap to just two points.
