Chris Sutton says Ruben Amorim will do something Erik ten Hag never did at Man Utd this weekend

Ruben Amorim hasn’t exactly had the dream start to life at Manchester United.

Amorim has only won one league game so far in charge of the Red Devils, and this United team looked shaky again in midweek as they barely got past Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.

There are problems at Man United right now, but they may get a bit of respite this weekend as they face Manchester City.

City have dominated United in the league in recent years, but Pep Guardiola’s side’s recent form is just as bad as United’s.

City are in turmoil at the moment, and fans have turned on some of their star players.

It’s hard to predict how this one will go, but writing in his column for the , Chris Sutton has shared his view on how this game will go.

Chris Sutton predicts the Manchester Derby

Sutton shared his prediction for this game.

The pundit said that both teams aren’t great right now, but, ultimately he edged towards a Man City win.

Sutton noted that Erik ten Hag never lost three league games in a row with United, but he thinks Amorim will do that here.

“Basically, both teams have been really bad, so what on earth do I go for here?” Sutton asked.

“In the recent past I have always gone with City in Manchester derbies and, while Amorim beat them with Sporting, you have to remember City could have been a few goals up by half-time in that game.”

“So, I am going to go with City to win at home and maybe rejuvenate Pep before Christmas.

“Speaking of stats, I have got a good one for you – United never lost three league games in a row in more than two years under Ten Hag, but Amorim will manage that in less than a month if he is beaten here.”

When was the last time Manchester United lost three consecutive league games?

Erik ten Hag was heavily critcised during his time at Manchester United, but he never lost three league games in a row.

Ralf Rangnick also never lost three league matches in a row during his short stint at the club.

In fact, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer never lost three league games in a row at United, nor did Jose Mourinho.

To find the last time United lost three consecutive league matches, you have to go back to the Louis van Gaal era almost nine years ago.

The last time Manchester United lost three consecutive league gamesDate
Bournemouth 2-1 Manchester United12 December 2015
Manchester United 1-2 Norwich City19 December 2015
Stoke City 2-0 Manchester United26 December 2015

That run of three consecutive losses actually came during a run of six games without a win heading into the new year, and if there is one positive Ruben Amorim can take it’s that he’s a long way away from matching that poor record.

Amorim will surely want to avoid the indignity of being the first United manager since Van Gaal to lose three consecutive games, but whether or not he’s capable of avoiding defeat against Manchester City remains to be seen.
