Chris Sutton says James Maddison did something he really didn’t like in Tottenham vs Newcastle
Tottenham lost to Newcastle on Sunday in what was a very disappointing result for Spurs.
Tottenham sit firmly in mid-table after three Premier League games, picking up just four points from their opening three matches.
While many Spurs fans will be disappointed with the results on the pitch, Chris Sutton has picked out something else he’s not happy about from this weekend’s game.
Indeed, , Sutton noted that he wasn’t happy with some of James Maddison’s theatrics on the pitch, as the midfielder dived to try to win a foul.
Sutton says that while Maddison is a great player, he needs to cut out this side of his game, claiming that he is much better than having to resort to these underhanded tactics.

Chris Sutton calls out James Maddison for diving
The pundit shared his verdict on Maddison and his play-acting against Newcastle.
“The winner of the Simulation Game this week, do you know what? It’s James Maddison. He’s a great player, a great footballer, but he has history of this. You’re better than that James Maddison. Stay on your feet, it’s madness from Maddison,” Sutton said.
James Maddison is becoming desperate
James Maddison is a fantastic footballer when he’s playing his best stuff, but it’s been a little while since we’ve seen that.
Maddison hasn’t been at his best for a little while now. He missed out on the England squad for the Euros this summer, and he clearly wants to get back to his best levels.
However, that struggle for improvement has seemingly led to a bit of desperation from Maddison, so much so that he’s had to resort to diving.
Roy Keane also wasn’t happy with Maddison during this game.
As Sutton says, Maddison is better than this, his talent can be gamechanging when he’s on form, and he doesn’t need to resort to trying to buy fouls and play-act.
Maddison needs to step up for Tottenham, because this start to the season has been underwhelming so far.
As Sutton says, Maddison needs to cut out this side of his game, and focus on getting back to his best in other areas.
