Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to laud Rangers after the Gers followed their brilliant win at Ibrox by doing enough to ensure that they will reach the last eight of the Europa League.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are through to the quarter-final. It did appear that they had put themselves in a fantastic position to book their ticket to the next stage.

Rangers won 3-0 in the first-leg of their last-16 clash with Red Star Belgrade.
They did create a bit of tension, conceding 10 minutes into the second-leg. However, Allan McGregor went on to produce a colossal performance, once again, rolling back the years with an amazing display in Europe.

The goalkeeper made a string of outstanding saves for the visitors. It is surely fair to say that he did more than most to ensure that the home side were unable to eat further into the deficit.
Rangers’ nerves were completely alleviated during the second-half. Ryan Kent went through after some nice work with Glen Kamara. And his deflected effort found the back of the net to restore the Gers’ three-goal advantage.
Kamara gave away a late penalty after trying to shield the ball. Unfortunately, McGregor was unable to produce one final save.
But, while Rangers lost on the night, the second goal came too late to inspire any dramatic comeback. And it will be the Gers in the hat for the next round.
Sutton took to social media following the game, and the pundit picked out an unsurprising name as his standout performer from the defeat. He also applauded Rangers for reaching the next stage of the competition.
Here is what Sutton posted following Rangers’ win…
Alan McGregor brilliant once again tonight. Well done to Rangers. Good night for Scottish football 👏👏

Rangers set for marquee tie as Sutton praises McGregor
Rangers fans may be starting to dream about coming up against the likes of Barcelona or RB Leipzig. Meanwhile, there is still a chance of an all-British tie with West Ham.
They also have previous against a team like Braga. So there is every reason for Rangers to be hopeful that their European adventure will not end at the next stage.
