Chris Sutton reacts as Rangers star Jon Flanagan escapes ban

Chris Sutton has reacted in shock as Rangers star Jon Flanagan has reportedly escaped a ban after replays showed he elbowed Celtic captain Scott Brown during last Sunday’s Old Firm derby.

Rangers won the match in comfortable fashion, with James Tavernier and Scott Arfield scoring goals either side of the half-time whistle to win 2-0 at Ibrox. It is just the Gers’ second win over Celtic since returning to the top flight.

But Flanagan was caught elbowing Brown in the Rangers penalty area just before a Celtic corner was taken. Referee Kevin Clancy decided to give one-time England international Flanagan a yellow card.

SFA compliance officer Clare Whyte deemed the incident to be worthy of a ban, but Rangers replied with a statement – defending Flanagan and asking why Jozo Simunovic had not been cited for an altercation with Jermain Defoe.

that the SFA have since ruled that Flanagan’s case had been thrown out, leaving the full-back free to face Kilmarnock in Rangers’ final Scottish Premiership clash of the season.

Celtic legend Sutton reacted immediately after the decision had been made, taking to his personal Twitter account to quote the news with a serious of laughing emojis – showing his shock at decision made by the SFA.
