Chris Sutton questions fitness levels of Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos

that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos does not look as though he has looked after his fitness while being suspended, and claims his form will have a determining factor on the Scottish Premiership title race.

Morelos, 23, has been in fine form this season – scoring 28 goals in 38 appearances for Rangers. Steven Gerrard has seemed to have ridden the disciplinary problems in the Colombia international’s game, until December.

The former HJK Helsinki star was sent off in a 2-0 over Motherwell for a second yellow card – before receiving his marching orders in the win over Celtic at Parkhead. He was subsequently banned for three matches.

Since returning to the side, he has failed to score in the three games against Ross County, Aberdeen and now Hibernian after Wednesday night’s 2-1 win. Celtic icon Sutton has questioned Morelos’ fitness, and claims he is the key to Rangers’ title race.

“He’s been the key all season, hasn’t he,” “He always was going to be that for Rangers. It was how is he going to come back after this short suspension, after the break.

“It doesn’t look as though he has been on top of his fitness. They need him to score goals now, from now on in – and have powerful performances. If he does that, then Rangers have a chance. If he doesn’t, then it will be Celtic by a stretch.”

TBR’s view – Can Rangers get Morelos firing again?

Morelos has not gone three league games without scoring at all this season, so Gerrard will be concerned that the striker has not netted in the last three league games – especially considering The Gers look far from their best.

On the other side of Glasgow, Celtic are purring. They have now won 16 of their last 17 league games – the other being the 2-1 defeat to Rangers. Gerrard needs Morelos fit, firing and ferocious if Rangers are to claw Neil Lennon’s side back.
