Chris Sutton predicts whether Erik ten Hag will be sacked as Manchester United manager now
The pressure has now ramped up on Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag after his side suffered a shock late defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge – with the Dutchman’s future under the microscope.
Having come back from two goals down – with Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer scoring – Manchester United actially went 3-2 up. Alejandro Garnacho scoring either side of a Bruno Fernandes header.
But after eight minutes of injury time, Palmer scored his second penalty of the match. Then moments later, he scored another goal, a deflected strike off of Scott McTominay. The winner, on 102 minutes.
Ten Hag‘s future was already in question after a dismal 1-1 draw with Brentford that saw The Bees dominate United. The loss to Chelsea was United’s third in the last seven games in all competitions.
Erik ten Hag under pressure after another Manchester United loss
United sit in sixth, nine points behind Spurs with eight league games to play. Any chance of Champions League qualification has completely diminished. Even if fifth place means Champions League football.
after the 4-3 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Sutton was asked what he thought was a good season for Man United. He said ten Hag won’t be in United’s dugout next season.

“I don’t think he will be here next season, anyway. I really don’t. They’ve had the takeover now, if you go back to last season – possibly he overachieved. But they’ve been in regression,” Sutton said last night.
“If you strip everything back this season, good performances for 90 minutes have been few and far between this season. That’s Erik ten Hag’s biggest problem at Manchester United,” the pundit added.
Which managers have been linked with Manchester United?
Brentford boss Thomas Frank has been linked, and praised of late by Steve Bruce. England manager Gareth Southgate is said to be an option but he will not be able to be appointed until after Euro 2024.
Brighton’s Robert De Zerbi is also said to be an option. At this stage, it seems as if ten Hag will be leaving Old Trafford – even if he manages to win the majority of Manchester United’s remaining games this term.
Something needs to change and whether the new board at Manchester United believe it is the manager, remains to be seen. Ten Hag is a top manager, but he has not been able to turn the tide, so far.
