Chris Sutton predicts Liverpool v Tottenham scoreline as he makes bold Ange Postecoglou claim

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur lock horns at Anfield on Sunday in a game that could finally put the Premier League title race to bed.

Liverpool need just one point from their remaining five Premier League games to leave nearest challengers Arsenal unable to catch up.

The Reds will be up against an ailing Tottenham side that could well finish the season in the bottom five of the table.

However, Spurs are still in with a shout of winning silverware this season, having reached the Europa League semi-finals.

Chris Sutton has now predicted the scoreline from this Sunday’s big Premier League clash at Anfield.

Chris Sutton backs Liverpool to beat Tottenham 4-1 and win Premier League title at Anfield

Sutton has acknowledged that Liverpool haven’t been at their sharpest of late, but stressed that they will be eager to get over the line in front of their own fans on Sunday.

When Liverpool won the title in 2020, the fans couldn’t properly celebrate due to nationwide regulations at the time, which means doing it now is a “big deal” for them.

In addition, Tottenham have the Europa League semi-final first-leg meeting with Bodo/Glimt next week, and Sutton doesn’t think Ange Postecoglou will go strong in the game before then.

Sutton has predicted a 4-1 win for Liverpool, followed by celebrations at Anfield.

“Liverpool only need a point to make sure of the title, and it is going to happen against Tottenham on Sunday,” Sutton wrote on .

“There is an argument that Spurs, and Manchester United too, should go strong in these Premier League games to try to find the rhythm they have been lacking all season, and get the team playing the way we know they can to help them in their Europa League semi-finals.

“But I don’t see Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou doing that before his side play Bodo/Glimt on Thursday, and I can only see one outcome.

“Liverpool have hardly been that sharp of late but they will be determined to win the title in front of their own fans for the first time in 35 years.

“They were not able to do that when they last won the title in 2020 because of the Covid regulations at the time, so doing it now is a big deal for them.

“I am expecting them to raise their game and blow Spurs away to get the job done.”

Liverpool v Tottenham team news

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is in contention to start against Tottenham after recovering from injury.

The Reds full-back came off the bench to score the winning goal against Leicester City last weekend.

Joe Gomez is working his way back from a hamstring operation, although he could return before the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have no new fitness concerns for the trip to Anfield, though they remain without captain Son Heung-min.

The Spurs forward is set to miss a fourth game due to a foot injury, while Radu Dragusin is a long-term absentee.

Postecoglou is under increasing pressure at Tottenham and speculation linking Spurs with other managers is now doing the rounds.

It has been reported that Spurs are looking at two former Liverpool figures – and a former Everton man – to replace Postecoglou at the helm.
