Chris Sutton praises Cameron Carter-Vickers after Old Firm performance

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has praised Tottenham Hotspur loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers for his ‘immense’ performance in the Old Firm derby.

The 24-year-old’s first half strike in the 42nd minute proved to be the matchwinner as Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side ousted Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers 2-1 at Ibrox, in what could be a crucial three points in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Following a Celtic free-kick, the ball fell perfectly to the USMNT international, who smashed the ball home with a first-time left-footed strike from inside the penalty area.

It was Carter-Vickers’ fourth goal of the season and he might not score a more important one throughout his career.

With the Hoops having the option of signing the Spurs man on a permanent deal, stalwart performances like today are only going to add weight behind the need for Celtic to trigger that option.

Although, reports have claimed that the likes of Leicester City and Wolves were amongst the sides to contact Spurs about signing the centre-halve.

But after several loan spells in the Championship, it looks like Carter-Vickers has found his home at Parkhead.

In Celtic’s biggest game of the season, Carter-Vickers produced a colossal performance. He finished the game with 55 touches and won seven aerial duels, no player from either side won more.

He also made three interceptions and nine clearances in what was a man mountain display, which didn’t go unnoticed by BT Sport pundit Sutton.

Speaking to after the game, Cameron Carter-Vickers said: “It’s a massive win for us, there are not many games left so every win is important.

“All season we’ve shown that character, we keep pushing and that’s what we did today.

“It was difficult, the fans were all screaming for them and sometimes it takes a while to adjust, but after that we played well.”
