Chris Sutton delivers verdict on how much he thinks Man Utd’s Antony is worth now after £85m move

Manchester United have made some serious transfer blunders in recent years.

Indeed, the Red Devils’ transfer business has been nothing short of shocking over the past few years, and perhaps no player sums that up better than Antony.

Antony was signed by Manchester United for a couple of years ago, but now, he can barely get into the side, and, when he does play, he barely makes an impact.

Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off, Chris Sutton has been discussing Antony’s status at Manchester United, and he’s suggested that the winger may now only be worth £10m despite making a huge-money move just a few years ago.

Antony is now worth £10m

Sutton spoke about Antony and how much he may be worth these days.

Antony has been heavily criticised in recent times, and Sutton believes he might now be worth just £10m.

“Why did neither of you say that Antony could be the one to be sold at Manchester United? He is awful,” Sutton was asked.

“It’s a great, great point. I’d forgotten about him. Me too. And to be fair, who would, I mean, how much would he go for? What did he come in for? Was it 85? 80. 80 million pounds. How much could they, he would devalue more than I devalued in a year at Chelsea. I mean, 80. What would they, seriously, what would they get for Anthony now? £10m?”

Premier League’s biggest loss-making transfers

If Antony were to leave Manchester United for £10m, the Red Devils would be taking a £75m hit on this transfer.

That would make Antony the single-biggest loss-making transfer in Premier League history – not counting players who left upon the expiry of their contracts such as Paul Pogba.

Nicolas Pepe currently holds that title as Arsenal actively terminated his contract only a few years after paying £72m for his services.

Pepe was a terrible signing for Arsenal, and he’s struggling to find his form even now with Villarreal.

It’s no surprise to see United and Chelsea dominating this list, with Romelu Lukaku and Fernando Torres also being two huge financial drains on their respective clubs.

Meanwhile Jadon Sancho stands to be a £50m loss for Manchester United, while Donny van de Beek was a serious loss-maker for the Red Devils too.

United are looking to sell players in January, and perhaps Antony will be on the chopping block at Old Trafford.
