Chris Sutton delivers verdict on “fearless” Arsenal player after Euro 2020 heartbreak
Chris Sutton believes that Arsenal star Bukayo Saka was unfortunate not to start in the Euro 2020 final after his penalty miss saw England fall short at the final hurdle.
Gareth Southgate’s England were beaten 3-2 in a penalty shootout on Sunday by Italy, so the wait to win a first major international tournament since 1966 continues.
Saka, along with Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, missed a penalty in the dreaded shootout to condemn the Three Lions to defeat at Wembley Stadium.
However, pundit Sutton has delivered some positive words on Arsenal attacker Saka.
Firstly, he feels the 19-year-old winger deserved to start the final. Southgate used him as a second-half substitute during the 90 minutes. In addition, he praised his bravery and fearlessness to step up for a fifth penalty in a shootout.
“Saka didn’t deserve his Euro 2020 to end that way. The 19-year-old Arsenal winger was thrown in against the Czech Republic and was the standout player. He was fearless down that right-hand side and unfortunate to not start the final against Italy. He’ll bounce back from that penalty miss. He was brave to be taker No 5. He stood up and now needs support,” Sutton told the .

Penalty miss won’t define Saka
For Saka, he’s got so much to reflect on during his first senior tournament with England.
His saved penalty is going to sting for a lifetime, but he wasn’t the only England player to miss.
The Gunners speedster should on the main be positive about a contribution this summer that few expected.
If you consider his rise in the past year, his future is really exciting.
