Chris Sutton claims Leigh Griffiths could be like a £20million signing for Celtic
Chris Sutton claims that Leigh Griffiths could be like a £20million signing for Celtic if he can get back to his best.
The 29-year-old has missed the majority of 2019 due to special leave for off-field issues, but did return this season.
He scored three times in eight games across all competitions at the beginning of the campaign, but hasn’t played in the first-team since August due to injury.
The Scottish centre-forward scored twice for the reserves in midweek as he works his way back to full fitness.
Pundit and ex-Celtic forward Sutton believes that Griffiths could give a real boost if he rediscovers his peak form, but acknowledges it will be difficult to find fitness.
“His well-being is more important than a game of football, we need to be clear on that,”
“He has been through a lot and we want to see him coming back strongly and banging in goals for Celtic because if he gets back to that level then it would be like a £20million signing.
“As soon as you lose that little bit of sharpness as a centre forward, that ability to shift the ball half a yard and get a shot off, then it’s a huge issue. But if Griffiths can get back to form then Celtic might not have to look elsewhere for a striker.”

TBR’s View:
Celtic have goals throughout their team and a brilliant talisman in Odsonne Edouard to lead the line on a weekly basis.
But there would be a real issue if the Frenchman picked up a serious injury problem and there is not a lot in reserve to replace him.
Griffiths would be an excellent addition to Neil Lennon’s squad for the second half of the season, as they look to continue their domestic dominance and fight off a resilient rival in Rangers.
The striker has 107 goals in 211 matches during his Bhoys career and a comeback from him would be great.
