Chelsea were in talks to sign ‘outstanding’ winger before last minute change to get Jadon Sancho from Man United
- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Chelsea certainly enjoyed a busy deadline day, eventually executing a late deal for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho.
Sancho🃏 was handed another opportunity by Man United in pre-season, but then didn’t play a role for Erik ten Hag once competitive football began.
As a result, Chelsea𓆉 spotted an opportunity and executed a deal for Sancho, who joined on loan with an obligation to buy clause inserted, if certain conditions are met.
🍌That being said, Chelsea weren’t always set on Sancho towards the end of the window, they were exploring deals elsewhere too.
TBR Football understands that Chelsea decided against a deal for Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman💞 in the final days of the window, when they opted for Sancho instead.
Chelsea vetoed Kingsley Coman move in favour of Jadon Sancho
𝓀Coman was given permission by Bayern’s hierarchy to explore a move this summer, and the French winger’s representatives were looking at multiple options.
The ‘outstandingꩲ’ winger received an offer from the Saudi Pro League, but was never convinced about making a move to the Middle East this summer.

ꦐComan was seeking a move to England and there was genuine interest from top clubs.
💫All of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Man United and Newcastle United were spoken to, but the most serious interest arrived from Chelsea.
❀However, whilst Chelsea were talking to Coman’s camp, it emerged that a deal for Sancho was possible.
💯And just days before the window closed, the club’s decision was relayed to Coman.
🃏Since the European window closed, Coman has decided to stay with Bayern until January at least, shunning interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
Sancho is at risk worth taking for Chelsea
🐈Whilst some Chelsea fans may now be debating the merits of choosing Sancho over Coman, the club also effectively chose the former Man United winger over Raheem Sterling too.
Sterling made a deadline day move to Arsenal꧑ on loan, and Chelsea replaced one out-of-form England winger with another.
꧙Of course, Sancho is now a much more appealing option for Chelsea given his age and the fact that west London represents a fresh start for the winger.
🎀Sterling’s time at Stamford Bridge simply hasn’t worked out, and it would be much tougher to turn his fortunes around.
𒈔Sancho still has so much to prove in the Premier League, and Chelsea’s decision to choose the winger over Coman should prove a good one.
