Chelsea trying to hijack Manchester City move after opening talks to sign £42.4m player

Enzo Maresca could use a new central midfielder at Chelsea right now.

Romeo Lavia and Enzo Fernandez have both struggled with injuries in recent weeks, leaving the Blues with Moises Caicedo and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall as the only recognised senior options in that department.

Chelsea do have the talented Andrey Santos out on loan at Strasbourg – but with just one win in six Premier League games lately, a reinforcement is needed sooner rather than later.

With Enzo Maresca searching for a new midfielder, Chelsea have now asked Juventus about Douglas Luiz during talks involving Renato Veiga potentially moving to Turin.

Chelsea enquire about Douglas Luiz

A story from now states that Chelsea have asked Juventus about taking the Brazil international on loan – although the Italian giants would prefer an outright sale.

The Italian news outlet claim that Luiz came up in discussions about Veiga moving to Juventus on loan from Chelsea, while Cristiano Giuntoli – Director of Football at the Allianz Stadium – was in London to speak to the Blues.

Juventus only signed the South American in a move from Aston Villa back in June – although the 2024/25 campaign has not gone to plan for the Brazilian.

Luiz was labelled a “disaster” by Italian media after a terrible start to life in Turin, which has intensified speculation that the 26-year-old could soon return to the Premier League.

Chelsea attempting to hijack Manchester City ambitions

TBR Football understand Manchester City also want Luiz – as Pep Guardiola aims to bolster his own midfield department.

The Citizens want a new central midfielder with Rodri still sidelined and Mateo Kovacic missing some games through injury this season, and view the Juventus No.26 as an attractive short-term option to add depth.

Arsenal also like Luiz – with RTI Esporte claiming that the Gunners see him as the ideal Jorginho replacement, but want a summer move rather than a winter deal.

Therefore, Chelsea would upset not one, but two Premier League rivals if they can strike an agreement with Juventus.
