🔜With the return of Jose Mourinho, expectations at Stamford Bridge will be higher than usual as Chelsea prepare for the upcoming Premier League season.
ಌWith a variety of players being linked with a transfer to the club, the returning Portuguese manager will have a wealth of potential transfer targets this summer.
𓃲Chelsea have already completed the transfer of Bayern Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle for a fee of £18 million. The German international became Mourinho’s first signing since his return to the London club.
🎀However, it’s fair to say, negotiations will not end here. I expect to see at least two more new faces at Chelsea before the summer window comes to a close.
ꦫHere’s a look at the players we could be seeing at Stamford Bridge next season.
Edinson Cavani [label type=”info” text=”Napoli”] [icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star-empty” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”]
👍Mourinho will be keen to bring in a new striker considering the inconsistency of Demba Ba and Fernando Torres last season.
🎃Chelsea are having to play a waiting game over the chance to sign one of their main summer transfer targets, Edinson Cavani.
ওFollowing Uruguay’s defeat by Brazil in the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup, the Napoli striker is returning to Italy for talks with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
ꦦChelsea have competition from Manchester United and Manchester City, who are looking for another striker following the sale of Carlos Tevez to Juventus yesterday, while Real Madrid are also in the hunt.
💖De Laurentiis is refusing to sell the 26-year-old the striker for less than the £53.6million release clause written into his contract and none of the interested clubs, including Chelsea, are willing to pay such a high fee.
ౠDue to this cost, I believe Chelsea are better off looking elsewhere. However, Cavani is a world-class player and I’m sure he would be a big success in the Premier League.
Robert Lewandowski [label type=”info” text=”Borussia Dortmund”] [icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”]
ꦫIf Chelsea end up losing the battle to land Cavani, Mourinho will launch an all-out attempt to secure the services of in-demand Lewandowski.
꧋While the Poland international, who has 12 months left on his current deal, has not hidden his wish to join Bayern Munich, Dortmund are refusing to do further business with their biggest rivals after watching Mario Gotze make the same move earlier this summer.
♎Dortmund, runners-up to Bayern in last season’s Bundesliga and European Cup, will not want to see a £25m asset leave for nothing next summer, and with the Blues ready to offer Lewandowski £170,000 a week, the Stamford Bridge outfit hope the Pole can be tempted.
♊Lewandowski would a fantastic signing for any of Europe’s elite. In my opinion he should be Chelsea’s main target, whatever the price.
Mario Gomez [label type=”info” text=”Bayern Munich”] [icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”]
♍Gomez has been monitored by Chelsea over the past two years. On Monday, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted the 27-year-old was looking to leave the Allianz Arena this summer.
🐎But new manager Pep Guardiola insists the Germany international is still part of his plans, telling reporters: “Gomez belongs to us.
ไ“He is a Bayern player right now and I’ll treat him like one.”
✨The former Barcelona coach, who was unveiled by Bayern on Monday afternoon, added: “He will be present at the club’s first training session of the season.
꧑I can’t see Gomez leaving Bayern this window, however if he does Chelsea should definitely show their interest.
Danielle De Rossi [label type=”info” text=”Roma”] [icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”]
๊De Rossi is considered to be one of the best defensive midfielders in the world and has been coveted by many clubs even though he has stayed at Roma for all of his career. He was close to leaving the Italian club last season when Manchester City were interested but he decided to stay in the Italian capital. Things might be different now however, after the player suffered a difficult season at the club, falling out with the manager and suffering from poor form.
ಌThis has led to speculation that De Rossi may leave the club this summer and many see his most likely destination as Chelsea. Mourinho is known to be an admired of De Rossi and is looking for a central midfield enforcer that he can build his new-look team around.
Marco van Ginkel [label type=”info” text=”Vitesse”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star-empty” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star-empty” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”]
𓂃Van Ginkel is one of the most highly-rated young attacking midfielders in Europe at the moment and has played a key role in the Dutch under 21?s run to the semi-finals of the European Championships. His performances in Israel and for his club Vitesse Arnhem have led to speculation that the midfielder could be on his way to one of Europe’s bigger clubs, withChelsea thought to be leading the race.
🌃Chelsea already have a number of fantastic attacking midfielders at the club so van Ginkel wouldn’t automatically make his way into the first team set-up at Stamford Bridge. Depending on the price of this transfer he could prove a good signing for the Blues as a useful rotation option.
Hulk [label type=”info” text=”Zenit”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star-empty” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star-empty” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star-empty” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”]
ಞStriker Hulk wants to move to Chelsea this summer but has asked for negotiations with Zenit St Petersburg to be delayed until after the conclusion of the Confederations Cup.
ꦯThe 26-year-old is keen on making the move to west London this summer and has asked his current club Zenit St Petersburg to accept the Blues £34.9m offer.
💟I personally believe Hulk is massively over-rated. Consequently, Chelsea would be foolish to spend this sum of money on him.
Nemanja Matic [label type=”info” text=”Benfica”] [icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star-empty” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star-empty” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”]
ꦏIt has previously been understood that Jose Mourinho was keen to bring Nemaja Matic back to Stamford Bridge this summer. The Serbia international left Chelsea for Benfica in 2011 and has just enjoyed a fine season in Portugal. But the 24-year-old has no intention of departing Lisbon just yet.
🤪Matic would be a good addition to the Chelsea squad, but it’s unlikely that he will leave Portugal this summer.
Wesley Sneijder [label type=”info” text=”Galatasaray”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”][icon type=”star-empty” size=”default” float=”none” color=”default”]
♚The Dutch international formed a good relationship with Mourinho during the pair’s time together at Inter Milan and the Dutch star almost certainly enjoy the best period of his career under the Portuguese manager.
꧃While the play-maker has enjoyed his time with Turkish giants, Galatasaray, reports are beginning to mount that Mourinho may well want to bring Sneijder to Stamford Bridge and is said to favour the Dutchman over Chelsea’s current midfield play-maker Juan Mata.
ওIn my opinion, Mata is the better of the two players. Do Chelsea need Sneijder? Probably not, especially considering the talent already at Mourinho’s disposal. However he’s a world class player and his addition to the squad certainly won’t hurt.
