Chelsea transfer ban decision could see Everton turn to World Cup star again
Everton may want to keep hold of Kurt Zouma permanently, but the club may be powerless to facilitate that now following FIFA’s decision to uphold Chelsea’s transfer ban.
The Blues were hoping to get it overturned, but the governing body rejected the club’s appeal and the London outfit will now be unable to sign new players for the next two transfer windows, .
Chelsea have confirmed they will be taking the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
It is a huge blow for the club, who are desperate to bridge the gap between themselves and Manchester City and Liverpool – with manager Maurizio Sarri having wanted two signings this summer.
Not only is the decision bad news for Chelsea, but Everton’s hopes of keeping Zouma may now be dashed.
Marco Silva may therefore need to replace the Frenchman if Chelsea won’t sell, meaning a move for old target Domagoj Vida could be back on.
TBR’s view
The Toffees were linked with a move for the Beskitas centre-back off the back of a highly impressive World Cup campaign last year.
30-year-old Vida was a rock at the back for Croatia and helped them reach the final, Everton made a £15 million bid for the player.
There’s a real possibility now that Chelsea will block a permanent transfer for Zouma, especially since he has had a great season at Goodison Park.
Perhaps the club will put their faith in Yerry Mina to be next season’s Zouma, with the older Vida signing to provide some cover.
