Chelsea, Tottenham: 5 PL clubs that should sign Real Madrid wizard Isco
After what feels like 3,000 years, Isco is finally set to leave Real Madrid this summer, with the Spanish playmaker calling time on his nine-year spell with the La Liga giants.
Over 350 appearances five UEFA Champions League titles make the 30-year-old one of the club’s most decorated players, and this summer will be an interesting one for Isco upon leaving Madrid for good.
The former Malaga wizard has been far from his best in recent years, mainly due to fitness problems and a lack of playing time at Madrid, though with Isco now set to have a choice of where he wants to move to this summer, the Premier League could be an ideal destination.
Isco, who had a release clause of at Madrid, has long been linked with a move to England, with Arsenal one of the latest sides to reportedly hold an interest in the creative midfielder. However, which five Premier League clubs could realistically sign the Spaniard this summer?
Chelsea
Given Isco’s sky-high wages at Madrid, only a handful of Premier League sides will actually be able to afford the departing Los Blancos star, and Chelsea could be one such club that makes a move for the playmaker.
With the futures of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho up in the air, Isco could come in as a cost-effective option for Chelsea in central midfield, with the 30-year-old also capable of playing a more advanced role for the Blues if needed.
Newcastle United
As arguably the richest club in world football, of course, Newcastle United are on this list, with Eddie Howe yet to make a superstar signing during his tenure with the Magpies. However, that can change with Isco.
The Toon need a creative spark in the squad, and Isco could be an outstanding option for the northeast side, where Newcastle fans will no doubt welcome the Spaniard as one of their own should he make the move to the Premier League’s newest superpower.
Tottenham
With £150m to spend in the summer and a mega-money free signing in Ivan Perisic already joining Tottenham, Isco doesn’t sound like an unrealistic signing for Antonio Conte, especially given the Italian’s preference for signing older players.
Moreover, Tottenham have yet to really replace Christian Eriksen since his departure in 2020, and Isco, despite his rustiness, could find a new home in north London with Spurs, especially if Conte gets the Spanish international up to scratch in pre-season training.
West Ham
West Ham looks determined to flesh out their squad this summer as injuries and an overall lack of bodies arguably denied David Moyes’ side from finishing higher in the Premier League standings, and Isco could be welcome at the London Stadium, who is also a reported target for the east London side.
A serial winner with an incredible mentality that will be a great addition to West Ham, Isco’s profile fits exactly what the Irons are looking for this summer, with the midfielder also a solid alternative to Jesse Lingard, should the Hammers miss out on the England international.
Wolves
Ruben Neves looks set to leave Wolves this summer, with the Portuguese international attracting interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United according to reports, and Isco could be a short-term solution for the midfielder.
Under Bruno Lage, like with Conte, Isco can shake off most of the rustiness that has hampered the playmaker’s performances with Madrid over the years, and like when Wolves signed Joao Moutinho, an experienced head in the midfield could be what takes the Molineux side to the next level.
