Chelsea tell ‘dominant’ £39m defender that he’s free to leave after interest from Newcastle

Whereas Chelsea are inundated with defenders right now, Newcastle United are struggling for numbers at the back, a problem worsened by Fabian Schar’s recent red card.

Newcastle primarily want former Chelsea defender Marc Guehi, but Joachim Andersen’s agreed move to Fulham from Crystal Palace could complicate things further.

Therefore, Newcastle are beginning to look elsewhere, and it seems as if Chelsea may now provide a late solution for Eddie Howe and his side.

Enzo Maresca started his Chelsea tenure with a centre-back pairing of Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill against Manchester City, a well-balanced duo.

Although Tosin Adarbioyo was included on the bench alongside Beniot Badiashile, there was no place for Axel Disasi.

And to that end, TBR Football understands that Chelsea have told Disasi that they will allow him to leave this summer.

Disasi has now been offered to a number of clubs including Newcastle in an attempt to find a move before next weeks’ deadline.

Chelsea have offered Axel Disasi to Newcastle amid Trevor Chalobah talks

Newcastle are in need of a new right-sided central defender and as mentioned, their deal for Guehi has been stalling.

And as well as being informed about Disasi’s availability, Newcastle have also spoken to Chelsea about Trevor Chalobah’s situation too.

In terms of Disasi, who was ‘dominant’ at times during his debut season at Stamford Bridge last term, Chelsea have told the defender that he’s not amongst Maresca’s preferred options.

Chelsea are looking to trim their squad in the coming days and weeks before the end of the window and the could be sacrificed as a result.

Disasi still has five-years left on his current deal in west London, and it remains to be seen how the player feels about moving on so soon after joining the club.

Of course, from Newcastle’s perspective, 26-year-old Disasi could be an incredibly smart buy, a player who is evidently equipped to succeed in the Premier League.

It is ironic that Disasi has in part become available because of Chelsea’s late move to snatch Adarabioyo from under Newcastle’s nose this summer.

However, it still seems as if Howe’s side could profit from the situation after all.
