Chelsea: Southampton forward linked; £40million bid for Gomes; Costa latest
Roman Abramovich and his team have not been afraid to splash the cash since the Russian’s takeover, and that could continue this summer as claims that they have had a £40 million bid rejected for Portuguese creative midfielder Andre Gomes.
Competition is stiff, with both Real Madrid and Barcelona fighting it out for the Valencia star, but Gary Neville’s former club are supposedly expecting a £55 million offer before allowing any club to talk to Gomes. Such an addition would add creativity to a very tough midfield at Stamford Bridge, which would help in their hunt to return to the Champions League and the title race at the first time of asking.
Chelsea are edging closer to their first defensive signing of the summer if is correct. They claim that Kalidou Koulibaly could be set to choose Chelsea over London rivals Arsenal in their hunt for the 25-year-old Senegalese defender.
With John Terry and the Chelsea defence ageing every season, and Conte reportedly keen to continue to play three at the back as he has with Juventus and Italy, additions in defence are a key target for the new boss and this Napoli man fits the bill.
His mind games and poor penalty taking may have cost Antonio Conte’s side their place at Euro 2016, but claim that a move for Graziano Pelle is in the offing. With Chelsea reportedly mulling over a £12 million offer, the Mail say that Southampton will attempt to hold out for an offer of at least £16 million with former manager Ronald Koeman keen to bring him to Everton to spearhead a new look attack should Romelu Lukaku depart.
Such a signing would clearly fit part of Conte’s new plan for the Blues, with Pelle offering a different option to what is currently offered by Diego Costa and Loic Remy.
Costa himself has found himself subject to a whirlwind of rumours in recent days, with some reports linking him with a move back to Atletico Madrid, according to , but it now seems, according to , that the Brazilian born turned Spanish international will reject a return to the Spanish capital and will fight for his place under the new Chelsea boss.
His return of 16 goals in 44 games last season was deemed a poor performance by many fans, who have grown frustrated by his injury and disciplinary problems.
He could face competition though, and not just in the form of Graziano Pelle, as the club continue to be linked with Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata who is reportedly keen on a reunion with his old manager at Juventus, if are to be believed.
Real Madrid activated their clause allowing them to re-sign the Spanish number nine for £23 million this summer from the Italian champions, but rumours persist that they did not do so with the intention of keeping him. Therefore, any bid for Morata is likely to be a big money bid which could see him head to one of the giants of European football.
After scoring three goals in four games at Euro 2016, Arsene Wenger is also believed to be keen on the striker, with both expecting that they could tempt Real Madrid with an offer close to £40 million, as opposed to the £52 million they are rumoured to be holding out for.
