They that the Blues face competition from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona for the services of Jovic, as they seek the firepower they have been lacking throughout the season.

With Olivier Giroud’s contract coming to an end at the close of the season, and Chelsea having played Eden Hazard at the forefront of their attack, reinforcements are needed.

But the fact that players who are currently at Stamford Bridge such as Michy Batshuayi aren’t being considered does not bode well for their long-term future in west London.

for the Belgian hitman – who eventually joined Crystal Palace on deadline day – during last month’s transfer window.

But the numbers involved in the chaotic winter market plainly did not add up for Everton. In the summer, with more time to do a deal and Chelsea needing the money and the space in the squad to bring in Jovic, Batshuayi could well be set for a permanent exit from Stamford Bridge.

And Everton still need a striker themselves – they have needed to field Richarlison as a makeshift option there – meaning that it may suit all parties for Batshuayi to move to Goodison, especially if Jovic comes into the Bridge.
