Chelsea round-up: Zouma could depart; defender decides on move; Inter winger rejected January move

As Antonio Conte reportedly looks set to add defenders to his squad in the summer, the  believe that there is interest in the purchase of Kurt Zouma from Roma after the Frenchman has struggled for game time since returning from injury.

Chelsea are believed to be reluctant to allow the central defender to leave given their high hopes for him in the future, but Zouma is unlikely to be content sitting on the bench watching on from the sidelines for much longer, especially after a long time out through injury.

Conte’s plans for defensive reinforcements have been dealt yet another blow as the  claim that Lazio defender Stefan De Vrij is preparing to choose Manchester United over Chelsea after receiving offers from both clubs in recent weeks.

The Dutchman could become the latest defender to have attracted interest from the Blues but not completed a move, following the failure to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli in the summer.

Another player who is believed to have rejected the club is Inter Milan winger Jonathan Biabiany, as his agent told :

“Yes, I can confirm that. Conte wanted him and personally talked to Jonathan to persuade him to move to Chelsea. Chelsea’s offer, however, was late. They called us on Sunday night and the transfer window was closing two days later. There was no time to finalize a deal.”

The 28-year-old was seemingly a last resort for the club given that he has barely featured this season with just three first team appearances to his name, all coming in the Europa League. That said, the right winger could have provided cover for Victor Moses and Pedro on the right-hand side.
