Chelsea round-up: Serie A star in talks; Conte frustration over transfers; midfielder pushes for exit
Talks have begun with AS Roma over central defender Antonio Rudiger, according to . The German international is currently in action at the Confederations Cup, where Germany will face Chile in the final. Talks remain at an initial stage with a deal not yet close.
Rudiger only moved from Stuttgart to Serie A two years ago in a £7.5 million deal, with Roma in line for a substantial profit this summer if they can strike an agreement with the Blues. The 23-year-old is just the latest defender to be linked after his team-mate Kostas Manolas was also rumoured to be on his way to west London earlier this week.
This kind of progress could help to ease Antonio Conte’s frustration, as the claim that the former Juve boss is growing increasingly unhappy with the club’s transfer activity. It’s thought that a number of the club’s top targets, including left-back Alex Sandro and striker Romelu Lukaku, are not players that the Italian wants to sign.

Whilst Conte has given his agreement to the addition of Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, he is not convinced that Roman Abramovich’s approach is giving him the players that he needs to mount a serious Premier League title defence next season.
He’s not the only unhappy figure at Stamford Bridge either, as the report that 22-year-old Nathaniel Chalobah could push for an exit in search of regular first team football. That comes after just one Premier League start last season.
Antonio Conte is thought to be a fan of the England under 21 international, hence why he rejected loan bids from Leicester, Sevilla and Napoli for the holding midfielder. However, with additions likely in midfield, it may be a tough task to hold on to the youngster unless there is a guarantee of regular first team football.
