Chelsea round-up: Porto’s Andre Silva targeted; scouts sent to Italy for Andrea Conti; Diego Costa desperate for reaction
French outlet claim that Chelsea have joined Manchester United in pursuit of 21-year-old Porto striker Andre Silva. With five goals from six caps and 20 goals in 38 games for his club this season, the youngster has shot to fame and is rapidly becoming one of the most wanted forwards in Europe.
Usually playing centrally, Silva can also play wide on the right or as a number ten, which could offer options to Antonio Conte as he looks to add depth to his squad to ensure that it is strong enough to deal with the challenges of the Champions League next season, though he wouldn’t come cheap given his £51 million release clause.
Another potential addition is wide man Andrea Conti, who say has been scouted by Antonio Conte’s team as Inter Milan also track the progress of the Italian. A right midfielder for Atlanta, it is thought that Conte sees the 23-year-old as competition for Victor Moses in the wing-back role.
With five goals and four assists from a similar position for the Serie A outfit this season in his 25 outings to date, it is clear that he could have an impact at Stamford Bridge if he did make the move next season but it would clearly be a step up and a new challenge in his career.
