Chelsea round-up: Conte blocks £155million signing; Manchester United battle for forward; Lukaku begs for deal
In one of the most sensation headlines of the season, and the quote the front cover of Italian newspaper which reports that Antonio Conte blocked a summer agreement with Barcelona which would have seen Neymar join the Blues for a fee worth £155 million which was agreed by Roman Abramovich.
The deal would have brought the Brazilian forward to west London in a record breaking transfer, but Conte turned down the opportunity to sign off on the deal as he didn’t feel that it was necessary, and it clearly could have had the potential to unsettle the likes of Eden Hazard.
That said, the say that the club are still looking to Spain to bring in a new superstar as they report that Abramovich has given the thumbs up for the club to spend big to secure the services of Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann amid interest from Manchester United.
The Blues are thought to be long term admirers of the Frenchman, but former boss Jose Mourinho is equally as keen and has been tracking him since his days in the dugout at Stamford Bridge where he was involved in some of the heavy scouting of the prolific forward.
Another potential summer signing is Romelu Lukaku, and the believe that the Belgian striker is desperate to complete a return to London to re-join his former club and will plead with Everton for the deal to go ahead, though the Toffees could demand £40 million and Michy Batshuayi in exchange.
Batshuayi has not yet started a game in the Premier League for the club since his move to Chelsea in the summer and could well be used as a negotiating tool in the negotiations if Conte does look to bring Lukaku back to the club.
