Chelsea: Real Madrid open talks; Llorente discusses speculation; Everton want defender
The claim that Real Madrid have opened talks with Chelsea over their number one target – Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian heads their list of options to replace current first choice Keylor Navas in goal for Zinedine Zidane, and the Spanish club hope to seal a deal after failing in an attempt to buy him in August.
Zidane has reportedly refused to sanction a swap deal involving Alvaro Morata which may seem preferable for the Blues, but the London side may not have a strong negotiating position given that his current contract is set to expire in 2019 with no sign of a new agreement on the cards.
Swansea striker Fernando Llorente has seemingly played down speculation linking him with a move to Stamford Bridge as he responded to a question on the interest by :
“I am very happy here and I want to play and score more goals. I wanted to celebrate with the fans and say thank you. The goals meant a lot to me and it is an amazing feeling to score twice in one of the best stadiums in the Premier League against one of the best teams – but the fans deserve this feeling too because it has been tough for them.”
Regardless of whether the Spaniard makes the move or not, he did Antonio Conte a massive favour by scoring two crucial goals at Anfield as the Swans defeated Liverpool to leave them some way off the pace in the title race.
Everton could make a move for unwanted defender Branislav Ivanovic as the claim that Ronald Koeman looks towards the Serbian as a potential replacement for Phil Jagielka as he looks increasingly likely to leave the club in the near future.
Ivanovic’s contract is set to expire in the summer but the club could be convinced to part ways with him this month if a convincing bid is received, though that may depend on Jagielka’s future.
