Chelsea now ready to move for ‘absurd’ £87m player who did want to join Real Madrid

Chelsea are reportedly ready to launch a move to sign Antonio Silva, though the Benfica defender already has dreams of joining Real Madrid.

The 20-year-old centre-back is regarded as one of the most exciting youngsters in European football, with Silva being a regular for Benfica since breaking into the first-team as an 18-year-old.

With a release clause worth £87m, Benfica know just how good a talent Silva is, and transfer interest has been building for the youngster in recent weeks, with Chelsea now in the race.

that the Blues are ready to hijack Manchester United’s proposed move for Silva, though Chelsea will be expected to pay the youngster’s release clause in full.

However, , Silva’s dream move is actually to Spanish giants Madrid, who are also interested in signing the Portuguese international.

Indeed, Chelsea’s need to sell first before they can buy could cause some problems for most transfers this January, and Silva could be one such deal that could fall through their fingers given how many teams are interested.

Chelsea’s squad, even after £1bn spent in the last 18 months, clearly needs some surgery, though every fan would agree that a striker is needed if the Blues are to find some sort of form.

Whilst Silva would be an outstanding addition, there’s no denying that Chelsea can get by this season with the centre-back options they already have in their ranks.

Moreover, with so many teams interested in signing Silva, going into battle for the defender might not be worth the hassle for Chelsea, who need a striker more to begin with.

Former Manchester City coach Juanma Lillo might have labelled Silva as ‘absurd’, but it’s clear that Chelsea need to be sensible this window if they’re to escape from another midtable finish.
