Chelsea make contact with Spanish club to sign their ‘strong’ and ‘athletic’ £20m player
Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea are interested in signing Aitor Paredes from Athletic Bilbao in the January transfer window.
That is according to The Sun, which has reported interest from two other big clubs in Paredes.
So, what has been reported about Chelsea and Aitor Paredes? Let’s take a look.
Chelsea want to sign Aitor Paredes from Athletic Bilbao
Well, according to , Chelsea want to sign Aitor Paredes from Athletic Bilbao in the January transfer window.
The report in the British tabloid has claimed that Chelsea have scouted Paredes as many as seven times this season and have been hugely impressed by his performances.
The Blues, who want £60 million for Conor Gallagher, have asked Bilbao about the transfer fee they need to pay for the defender. The La Liga club are reluctant to set a price, although The Sun claims that the centre-back could be available for £20 million.

“Chelsea value Paredes’ ability to pass the ball out from the back alongside his strong athletic profile,” states the report in The Sun.
“The player is known for both his strength and recovery pace and looks set to earn a call-up to the Spanish national team for the upcoming Euros.”
There is another problem that Chelsea, who could lose Trevoh Chalobah in the January transfer window, are facing in regard to signing Paredes.
The Sun has reported that Real Madrid have already approached the defender this month. Italian giants Inter Milan are also keen.
My View: Chelsea may not be able to sign Aitor Paredes in January
In my opinion, Chelsea could struggle to sign Aitor Paredes from Athletic Bilbao in the January transfer window.
While £20 million is a decent amount of money for a 23-year-old central defender playing in Spain, Bilbao are in the running for a UEFA Champions League spot in the La Liga table this season. They are fourth now.
Paredes is an important player for Bilbao, and I do not think that Ernesto Valverde’s side would want to lose him in the middle of the season.
The 23-year-old has made 17 starts and two substitute appearances in La Liga for Bilbao this season. He has scored one goal in those games.
