Chelsea know everything about 21-year-old attacker’s £43m release clause
Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Chelsea know everything about the release clause of Nico Williams, with the Blues very interested in signing the Spain international this summer.
Nico Williams looks to be one of the key names to keep an eye on heading into the summer transfer window.
Arsenal have made contact over a potential deal for Williams. Meanwhile, Tottenham also have Williams on their radar as they look to kick on in Ange Postecoglou’s second season.
Chelsea well informed over Nico Williams ahead of the summer
But Mauricio Pochettino may perhaps be hoping to beat his old side to the 21-year-old’s signature. Of course, it has been an incredibly difficult campaign at Stamford Bridge. So it will be fascinating to see what Chelsea do decide to do when the window opens again.

David Ornstein has suggested that Chelsea may be unable to make a move for Williams. But speaking on , Fabrizio Romano has explained that the Blues have been big admirers of the forward for a long time now. And they are aware of what it will take to secure his signature.
“Yeah, Nico Williams was one of the names for Chelsea already last summer. If you’re following my social media, I told you last summer that Chelsea were really keen on signing Nico Williams in August. He was one of the names that they had on the list. But he was second to Cole Palmer. The top priority, the secret name. You remember that crazy moment in the summer, the final weeks of the summer when Chelsea wanted to sign an offensive player. We had many names in the media. But Cole Palmer was always the secret top target. And I think Chelsea did a fantastic piece of business by signing Cole Palmer,” he said.
“But in that list, there was also Nico Williams. So the player is still of interest to Chelsea. He’s really appreciated. He has a release clause for €50 million. So Chelsea know everything about the details of this clause, how it works. They appreciate the player. But the deal will depend on two factors. The first one, in terms of salary, how much the player wants, what is the conditions of the deal, to understand what’s going to happen with Nico Williams. And also, there is competition. It’s not only Chelsea. Other clubs in England, but not only, are following the situation of Nico Williams. So it’s not that easy.”
Huge intrigue over what the Blues do this summer
It is going to be so intriguing to see what Chelsea do look to do this summer. Obviously, they have invested heavily in their ranks over the last few years. So you would imagine that much will depend on what fees they manage to bring in for their players they are willing to sell.
But Williams would definitely be an exciting signing. He is absolutely rapid. And he has been directly involved in 12 goals in 24 La Liga games this season, with nine assists.
He is not the striker Chelsea are arguably crying out for. But given the price of his release clause, the Blues may perhaps feel that it is an opportunity too good to turn away from.
