Chelsea: Fresh Morata bid; interest in Spurs star; Spaniard says goodbye?
In pursuit of what seems to be their number one transfer target, there are plans for a fresh bid for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, say the . It is expected that a bid of £67 million will be submitted to the Spanish club, a £5 million improvement on their last offer, in an attempt to persuade them to change their mind and allow Morata to leave.
Chelsea; and indeed Antonio Conte, are clearly desperate to sign the forward, who would bring star quality to the Chelsea attack. Whilst it seems that they have looked at alternatives such as Romelu Lukaku, few have seemed to be available any cheaper than Morata and so they seem to be going back to Madrid with an improved offer. Morata is a player proven at the top level, and with youth on his side he could prove to be the missing piece of the jigsaw to rebuild Chelsea’s title hopes.
The deal could be partly funded with the proceeds of a Diego Costa sale to Atletico Madrid after reported that a bizarre Instagram post saying “thank you to all my friends!” after defeat to Liverpool was in fact a goodbye message as he nears a Stamford Bridge exit as speculation continues to grow.
Whilst reports have been inconsistent, most seem to agree that Costa is far from happy with his situation in London, reportedly having struggled to adjust to life in the capital. He is said to be keen to return to Spain, where he is treated as an idol by Atlético fans who are hoping that he will return this summer to line up alongside the likes of Antoine Griezmann.
The are also reporting on a surprise interest in England and Tottenham left-back Danny Rose, to whmo Spurs are planning to offer a new contract, in an attempt to ward off interest in the 26-year-old from Chelsea and Manchester City. An improvement on his £35,000-a-week deal is expected.
Rose would fit in well in a Conte system, where strong and quick wing-backs play a vital role, and Rose has both the attacking threat and defensive reliability to suit such a system. The Blues were said to have made a move for Rose last summer, but Daniel Levy now refuses to do business with their rivals as the relationship between the two clubs has worsened.
Young striker Patrick Bamford could also be set to leave, with the saying that Celtic are close to completing a loan deal for the 22-year-old, who is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the club.
It is clear that Bamford needs first-team football and experience which he is unlikely to get at Chelsea, the only doubt that remains is whether or not Bamford will ever be able to make the breakthrough into the first-team for the Blues.
