Can Chelsea’s Izzy Brown help newly-promoted Brighton impress in the Premier League?
Chelsea youngster Izzy Brown has signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge, beforing leaving the club on loan to join Brighton and Hove Albion for the coming season, the club have .
The 20-year-old played an integral part in helping Huddersfield secure promotion from the Championship via the play-offs last year, scoring five times in 21 matches, and he caught the eye whilst doing so.
The had reported earlier in the month that the Seagulls were moving closer to agreeing on a switch and – a fortnight later – Brown has completed his Brighton move.
What can the Chelsea youngster bring to Brighton?
At just 20 years of age, there is an awful lot of potential surrounding Izzy Brown, and the fact that Chelsea are merely sending him out on-loan – rather than permanently – shows they have high hopes for him.
His pace and versatility inside the opposition third has played a massive part in him being so successful in the Championship last season, able to accelerate away from defenders and create chances.
But, beyond this, there is an intelligence to his game – almost a sort of craft – that could make him incredibly successful in the top-flight, knowing when to make the pass and when to make the run.
And his natural goal-scoring instinct that he’s shown inside the area, added to a willingness to constantly run on and off the ball, shows that he has all of the attributes required to be a future household name.
Would Brown be able to step up to the Premier League?
After impressing in the Championship last season for Huddersfield, playing a massive part in their successful play-off campaign, the big question now is whether he can match this on the biggest stage.
He has something that could really help Brighton during their debut Premier League season; a sense of maturity that is very impressive for somebody so young.
Despite his tender years, he has already experienced football in Holland (for Vitesse) and had two years in a demanding Championship division.
His dynamic approach to football on the pitch, and his daring nature to try things that others wouldn’t, could also provide a lift and a hint of inspiration that Brighton need to avoid any trouble.
Fellow promoted side Huddersfield will feel aggrieved that Brown has opted against returning for a second spell in Yorkshire but, as the timeless cliché goes, their loss will almost certainly be Brighton’s gain.
